Dustin Poirier steps in for siver to fight Cub Swanson
Streaking featherweight kickboxer Dennis Siver has been forced to withdraw -- for undisclosed reasons -- from his upcoming fight at the UFC on FUEL TV 7 event booked for the Wembley Arena on Feb. 16, 2013. That means his opponent, Cub Swanson, has been left without a date to the big dance.
Until now.
Stepping in for Siver will be top division prospect and "Fightville" star Dustin Poirier, who may insert himself back into the 145-pound title hunt with a big win across the pond. The "Diamond" was perhaps a victory or two away from the promised land; however, Chan Sung Jung put a stop to that last year in Fairfax, Virginia.
A submission win over Jonathan Brookins last December and Poirier is right back in the thick of things.
Unfortunately, he's got a fairly tall order ahead of him, as Swanson (18-5) has been on fire as of late. After beating the brakes off George Roop last January, the Greg Jackson disciple pounded out Ross Pearson at UFC on FX 4 before hitting the switch on Charles Oliveira at UFC 152.
He's even expecting a title shot with a win next month in London.
